What locks anti-break safes
should be equipped with?
A good lock is more than
half the work. That is why Western and Belarusian safe producers
most often use locks of world known professionals in this field.
They are German "Mauer" and "Cawi" companies
(key locks), American "Sargent&Greenleaf" (code
locks). These companies dominate in the safe market for more than
100 years.
For example, one can easily feel the quality
of "Mauer" key lock: it turns swimmingly with a light
click. When choosing a safe pay much attention to the key. It
should a striated safe one, but never English dentated or cruciform
key that are door keys. Besides, a key must be precisely made.
It must be without any wire-edges, smooth finishes and sharpenings.
At the same time the simplicity of striated key's shapes shouldn't
mislead you, though from the first look you might think: "Such
a simple key? It can be copied in two ticks!". It's because
of the micron precision of the key that practically excludes the
possibility of copying. Being aware of this feature, professional
safecrackers duplicate such keys only in the case when they have
the lock at their disposal, but never of the cast.
The safe set includes two keys. It is supposed that one of them
should be always at owner's disposal, while the other should be
situated in the secret and spare place, but never in the safe
that is locked by this key. The second key is meant to be used
when the main would be lost.
The diversity of
keys can be categorized in the following way:
1.
Key locks:
-
pump lock
-
level lock
-
cylinder lock
2.
Code mechanical locks:
-
fixed code lock
-
variable code lock
3.
Code electronic locks:
-
variable code lock
A key lock became
usual and available at a reasonable price, easy-to-operate. Level
locks that are more protected from being cracked than cylinder
locks are used more often in safe production. As a rule, the key
set consists of two copies. "The weak point" is that
a key can be lost. Besides, there is a possibility of duplicating,
though the better is the lock the less is the possibility.
A code electronic lock
speeds up the access to the contents of the safe. It is deprived
of weaknesses mentioned above, but in its turn has its own. Firstly,
it is volatility: there is still no everlasting battery invented
(Indeed, it should be noticed that a safe won't "forget"
the code). Secondly, such lock are expensive. The weak point of
electronic safes is that they can be tranferred to "out of
operation" state affecting on them with special electric
device. However, to break doesn't mean to open.
One should keep in mind
that in order to show their best qualities top-level locks must
be competently mounted. For example, a special manganic plate
that protects a lock from being drilled should be installed when
"Mauer" key lock is mounted.
Oh, yet another moment!
Before you decide to choose a safe with biometrical and dactyloscopic
lock, think first what part of your body it would be less dramatic
for you to be deprived of.
